The Melrose North apartments were officially opened Monday, a building that is providing more than 170 affordable homes to those in need.
The city’s Department of Housing, Preservation and Development says the area currently has high rent prices and low vacancies. It says the goal is to fight homelessness and provide long-term housing security.
HPD officials say the new development in Melrose will offer stability and supportive services to people in dire need.
News 12 spoke Monita who was at Monday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. She hopes others can get the help they need.
“I don’t have to be in a shelter. I don’t have to go house hunting,” she said.
HPD told News 12 that all the units are filled instead the apartment building. There are other lotteries open right now through NYC Housing Connect.
