Commemorating Native American Heritage Month

November is National Native American Heritage Month. Also known as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, this is a time to recognize the history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous people to this country, and honor the hundreds of Tribal Nations who continue to exercise their inherent sovereignty as vital members of the overlapping system of governments in the United States.
New York City is home to more people with Native American tribal affiliations than any other city in the United States (according to this CBC article). Two nonprofit organizations founded by and serving Native Americans in New York City are the American Indian Community House and Urban Indigenous Collective.

We stand with our staff, friends, neighbors, the people we serve, and all Native Americans. We will continue to work towards racial equity and social justice.
