NADSP Honors S:US And Collaborators With “Moving Mountains Award”
The National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) has recognized S:US with one of the 2015 Moving Mountains Awards, that will be given this year’s Reinventing Quality Conference.
At least six national organizations participated as judges in this contest, which recognizes organizations using leading practices in direct support workforce development that result in improved outcomes for the people being supported. The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) noted that they are “very proud of [S:US’] distinguished efforts in bringing this prestigious award to New York.”
“Your New York City collaboration of agencies is very impressive in many ways,” said Kerry A. Delaney, Acting Commissioner of OPWDD. “First, you have demonstrated that workforce transformation is an organizational culture improvement initiative that requires executive buy-in. Second, you chose to build direct support capacity by supporting the transformation of your frontline supervisors (FLSs) who are so critical to the success for any agency initiative. Third, the staff at your three agencies designed and achieved national accreditation for a FLS curriculum. Lastly, many of the one hundred FLS participants in this workforce development program will be pursuing a national FLS credential–the first in our state and in our country. With this initiative, UCP-NYC, Services for the UnderServed, and Heartshare are setting a high but achievable standard for all service providers seeking to improve services and supports for people with developmental disabilities.”
