People supported prepared and enjoyed a meal at The Teaching Kitchen
Program participants at S:US’ 149th Street Day Habilitation program visited The Teaching Kitchen at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. The Teaching Kitchen is a training and technical assistance program that helps nonprofit organizations to convert their food services to a farm-to-institution model by serving more fresh, healthy and local food. The program is run by three chefs who have an interest in teaching healthy food eating and also looks at the association of healthy lifestyles and our health.
Our group attended an open session and participated with others who were interested in learning how to cook a healthy meal and kitchen safety know-how at the same time. Everyone had an amazing experience! We are hoping to increase our visits and to engage with like-minded organizations to create opportunities for the people we support with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
