On Wednesday, August 3rd, S:US hosted an evening of great conversation about health and mental health access and equity and opportunities for city-wide collaborations featuring S:US’ President and CEO, Jorge R. Petit, MD and the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Ashwin Vasan, MD, PhD. The event took place on the rooftop terrace of Spring Studios in Tribeca.
“S:US has been around for over 44 years with a mission and vision anchored on righting societal imbalances, serving the underserved and creating opportunities for all but what does good health mean and how do we define social justice at S:US. In these last 6 months at the helm of S:US, I have been hard at work to expand our definition of social justice and the critical role we have as an organization that promotes social justice in so many different ways. This rooftop conversation with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Commissioner Vasan is a kick off to our Social Justice Agenda that will help organize our work, our activities and our renewed commitment to the communities we are in and the people we serve,” Jorge R. Petit, MD

“As a former non-profit leader, as someone that came up through non-profits, it’s essential that government understands the role of non-profits as a critical delivery system, without which we wouldn’t be able to deliver on key city-wide health, social and other goals, and so I am very proud to be a part of an administration that has a lot of non-profit leaders in it, but more importantly really prioritizes its relationships with non-profits,” – Ashwin Vasan, MD, PhD
