We Honor and Support Veterans on Veterans Day
S:US will take part in the NYC Veterans Day Parade. When we participate in the parade, we are not just honoring Veterans, we are helping to raise awareness for the issues our vets face every day on the home front.
Reintegration to civilian life is the toughest challenge veterans face. This is true for those who served decades ago or in recent conflicts. Seventy percent live with chronic mental illness and substance use disorders. Of the nearly 3,000 veterans and their families we serve, most satisfy the federal guidelines for “very low-income.” Outside of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, S:US is one of the largest veterans’ services providers in New York City.
S:US partners with nearly 3,000 veterans and their families to prevent homelessness, provide rapid rehousing support, find employment opportunities, and access resources. S:US also provides behavioral health services to help veterans plan for long-term stability.
We’ve made a big impact in the last few years connecting hundreds of veterans to training, certifications and degree-granting programs to support career placement. S:US employment specialists provided individualized career counseling to help veterans translate their military skills to civilian employment, guiding participants to the high-quality educational and training opportunities they need to be competitive in the New York marketplace. Our cross-functional team supports each veteran’s job search, eventual placement, and employment retention services. We continue to work with many veterans long after they secure employment by providing additional supports to ensure long-term success.
We can’t do it alone. Partnership is key to making a difference. Thank you to these donors who have all supported S:US Veterans Services: The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), The Barker Welfare Foundation, Santander Bank, N.A. (“Santander Bank”), and American Veterans Group.
Our core mission of driving scalable solutions to transform the lives of people with disabilities, people in poverty and people facing homelessness is grounded on embracing solutions that contribute to social justice and create opportunities for all. Our veterans have served our country and placed their lives on the line. They deserve to have homes, find stability, and live their lives with purpose. We all do.
“Thank you so very much for guiding me this far to obtaining housing. Since coming to NYC I thought I was going to go another year homeless but everyone has shown me in less than 90 days I had help with budgeting, employment navigation, storage, food, temporary housing accommodations, mental health services and getting approved for the voucher I needed for a very long time. I cannot begin to express how happy and protected you all have made me feel during this journey… you guys rock!”
