July 26, 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), whose purpose is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. S:US is celebrating this milestone by sharing stories of how the ADA has helped improve the lives of the people served by S:US.
“The ADA has helped me grow through learning how to cook for myself, how to do my own laundry, how to take public transportation by myself in New York City without getting scared, and has helped me feel confident even though I have a disability!”
– Mary F. (lives in an S:US group home in the Bronx, NY)
“The ADA has helped me learn and grow. I learned how to be independent in urban gardening, now I know how to use a chain saw, put up a gardening bed, lay the seeds down and build a green house, grow herbs and vegetables.”
– Noel C. (lives in an S:US group home in Brooklyn, NY)
“The ADA has helped me plant and grow herbs, flowers and vegetables and be part of S:US’ Urban Farms which I love!”
– Diane M. (lives in an S:US group home in the Bronx, NY)
Here are a few more photos of the people we serve.
