Let’s Build Some Gardens!

2024 community volunteers working in the backyard.
In celebration of Earth Day, please join us as we renovate the backyard at one of our group homes for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities for the upcoming growing season. Some tasks include building raised bed frames and a 48 ft. long-raised garden bed and constructing two arch trellises. If there’s enough time, we’ll also plant gooseberries, figs, currants, blueberries, and strawberries.
This design will enlarge the currently cultivated square footage at the group home from 128 sq. ft. to 802 sq. ft., an increase in tillable area of nearly 150%. This will beautify and grow the outdoor space at this residence for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. The staff and residents are excited to grow their own vegetables and herbs.
