Fun in the Sun

Tasha and John, individuals from S:US’ day habilitation program, volunteered and worked at the Marine Park Golf Course and Camp in Brooklyn last summer. Some of their responsibilities included filling up water pitchers with ice and water for the golfers, setting up tables for the recreational areas, placing cups for refreshment breaks, putting garbage bags out to keep areas clean and orderly, and lining up golf carts and golf balls. For assistance in the camp, Tasha and John retrieved golf balls from the holes and rolled them back to the budding golfers.
The job involved working for four hours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Tasha shared, “I liked putting the golf balls out to help the children. We got to talk to them and socialize with the campers who were 7-8 years old. It was so much fun!” This endeavor helped Tasha realize how much she loves to be around children, to help them in their desire to learn and develop in the sport, and to work and earn money. She also appreciated the value of earning money and is saving for a future purchase. Next summer, Tasha and John both hope to return to the golf course and continue to help their golfers.
