Paint Fest

S:US was chosen as one of the mental health service providers to partner on a nine-month mural project in East Harlem. In order to advance the mural theme and design development, we hosted weekly art workshops at the S:US Harlem Wellness Works Clinic and engaged the community by using creative activities that promoted discussions about mental health and stigma and supported relationship building among community members and peers. We have turned those discussions into a neighborhood landmark, a vibrant new mural titled: Empowerment Through Gratitude. The mural was created by artist Arantxa X. Rodriguez in collaboration with the S:US community.
On May 6, 2023, at Marcus Garvey Park, the community came out to paint panels on the mural; and participated in arts and crafts, cooking demos, dance meditation, knitting, painting, reflective journaling, yoga, food, music and a kids’ activities.
