S:US Celebrates Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month and this year’s theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” March 8 is International Women’s Day.

This month serves as a time to honor the often-overlooked achievements and contributions that women of all backgrounds have made throughout the history of our country, both by remembering those who paved the way in the struggle for gender equity and by recognizing the history-makers and barrier breakers of today.

Women’s History Month began as a local movement by teachers in California to celebrate “Women’s History Week.” In 1980, President Jimmy Carter officially recognized National Women’s History Week, and, in 1987, Congress passed Public Law 100-9, establishing March as Women’s History Month.

At S:US, more than 60% of our staff are women. We understand the universal value that gender equity brings to our staff, our organization, the people we serve, and our community. Bolstering a more diverse workplace is a key priority because more than half the 37,000 people that we serve are Black, Indigenous, and women of color.

Gender equality benefits everyone because it leads to more prosperous, peaceful, and healthy communities by allowing everyone to reach their full potential. This contributes to better economies, improved family dynamics, and reduced violence.

Shout out to all the strong, compassionate women who work at S:US! They dedicate their careers to serving others, and we thank them and our entire workforce today and every day.
