Uplift. Defend. Transform: Celebrating the Power of Social Work

March is National Social Work Month, and this year’s theme — “Social Workers: Uplift. Defend. Transform.”— recognizes the profound impact social workers have in strengthening communities and promoting equity and well‑being.

At S:US, our social work staff are compassionate, skilled professionals who walk alongside New Yorkers striving for stability, wellness, and opportunity. Every day, they support people living with mental health challenges, people with disabilities, people navigating poverty, and individuals and families experiencing homelessness—always honoring each person’s dignity, autonomy, and goals.

Social workers dedicate years to education, training, and supervised practice so they can do the nuanced, relationship‑centered work of meeting people where they are. They understand that each person’s story is shaped by race, culture, gender, religion, and socio‑economic realities, and they use an intersectional lens to advocate at both the individual and systemic levels.

At S:US, social workers serve as therapists, wellness and family specialists, directors, supervisors, quality assurance leaders, trainers, grant writers, and more — reflecting our belief that addressing people’s needs requires a multifaceted, person‑centered approach.

We celebrate our social workers this month and every month. Their commitment breaks down barriers, expands possibilities, and helps New Yorkers build the lives they envision for themselves.
