A message from our CEO

Stepping out as we mark our 40th Anniversary

It’s time. Time for us to step out and showcase our work which, for the last 40 years, has meant partnering with some of the most vulnerable New Yorkers to create a pathway to lives of purpose.

For 40 years, S:US has been out there 24/7 giving people the tools they need to address their life challenges. We have tapped into the optimism which is at our core, on the resilient nature of those who come to us for services, and on the “can do” spirit that makes our city great, to successfully support 35,000 New Yorkers each year as they transform their own lives.

With four decades of providing housing and support services for people with disabilities, people in poverty and people facing homelessness, we have begun to help shape a city where there is opportunity for all. Last year we prevented 1,200 evictions, keeping hundreds of individuals and families from entering the shelter system. And on any given night we provide housing and shelter to more than 4,500 individuals.

Our successes to date have emboldened us to do even more. Now, we are calling on all New Yorkers—the business community, civic groups, neighborhoods where we live and work, and foundations to work in partnership with us as we launch our New Yorkers for New York campaign.

New Yorkers for New York believes we can fulfill our vision of a city where everyone has a roof over their head, is healthy, productive and socially engaged. New Yorkers for New York will create opportunity for ALL New Yorkers to live their best life. And why not? Stories that define us as New Yorkers are about New Yorkers who work hard to overcome obstacles to succeed.

As New Yorkers, we do not believe that much is beyond our scope IF we work together. After all, we are all better off when each of us is better off.

WE HAVE A CURE FOR HOMELESSNESS.

IT’S CALLED HOUSING.

As one of New York City’s largest providers, we know that’s more than a slogan: it’s an understatement. While housing doesn’t cure anything all by itself, it makes it possible for people with a wide range of challenges to find their way to stability and health. Read more
